If you have never been to San Diego during whale watching season, it is definitely something to visit for! The San Diego whale watching season runs from December to March, when thousands of whales migrate from the cold Alaskan waters to the warm Baja California waters. These whales travel over 5,000 miles along the coast, the longest known distance any mammal migrates on an annual basis. San Diego has 70 miles of coastline, making it an ideal location for viewing this amazing migration. During the peak migration season, which is right now, in mid-January, there have been as many as 200 whales spotted per day off of San Diego’s shores.

Not only is it whale watching season, but you can also watch dolphins right from shore! Our vacation rentals offer premium viewing for dolphin spotting. Guests are always telling us how amazed they are on how many dolphins they have been able to spot while staying at our vacation rentals, right from the beach front patio, or even from the living room window.

Whether you come for an entire week, or just for a quick weekend getaway, the whale migration is definitely a sight to see, and an experience you will always remember.
